
Leona Louise Lewis (born 3 April 1985) is a British singer, songwriter as well as an actress and activist. She was born and raised in the London Borough Of Islington she attended the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology, Croydon. Lewis became famous when she was chosen to be the third season of The X Factor 2006 and received a contract worth one million pounds through Syco music. The song she was awarded that was a cover of Kelly Clarkson's track "A Moment like This," had 50,000 downloads within 30 minutes , and reached #1 for the duration of four weeks. In February 2007, Lewis was signed to a contract for five albums with the United States with Clive Davis's record label, J Records. Her success continued after she debuted her first album, Spirit (2007). The album is certified platinum within the UK as the fourth highest-seller album in the 2000s. Spirit was, according to Official Charts Company is the greatest-selling debut album by a female musician. Its single "Bleeding Love" was a hit for seven weeks on high on the UK charts, was the top-selling single of 2007. The single was the top-selling in 2008 as well. Lewis won an award for her work, the Billboard Award for the Best New Artist. In 2009, she released her sophomore studio album, Echo and also recorded the title track, "I See You" from the movie Avatar. Lewis' track "Collide" is a collaboration between Swedish DJ Avicii and she also released Hurt the EP, her first extended play. The third album she released, Glassheart (2012), brought a brand new direction to her music for Lewis who draws on dubstep and electronic music. During her Glassheart Tour in 2013, she began recording material for her first Christmas album. The Christmas album, with Love came out in the latter half of 2013. The album's opening track, One More Sleep, peaked at number 3 on the charts in the UK. Lewis, an British female solo artist made history by becoming the first British artist to break the top 5 with eight singles. The record is higher than Olivia Newton John's seven-year record.
